US West Coast Road Trip

From San Francisco to Los Angeles and Las Vegas

The US West Coast is one of the most diverse travel destinations in the world. Three cities, three completely different vibes – yet perfectly connected. San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas stand for freedom, dreams and experiences you can only find here. This journey wasn’t just a road trip, but a collection of moments you never forget.

San Francisco – Between Cable Cars, Ocean Air and History

San Francisco was the perfect place to start. The city feels calm, almost European, yet still has that unmistakable American sense of freedom.

An absolute must-visit are Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf. Yes, it’s touristy – but that’s exactly part of its charm. Sea lions, sunshine on your face, views over the bay and the smell of clam chowder – this is where San Francisco begins exactly how you imagine it.

From here, it’s easy to take a boat tour to Alcatraz. Even the ferry ride itself is impressive, but the story of the world’s most famous prison island really stays with you. The audio tour is extremely well done and gives deep insight into the lives of former inmates.

If true crime isn’t your thing, you can also book a classic bay cruise instead. You’ll see Alcatraz from the outside and, at the same time, sail underneath one of the most famous bridges in the world – the Golden Gate Bridge.

Of course, a visit to San Francisco wouldn’t be complete without seeing the Golden Gate Bridge. The classic viewpoint is from the city side, but my personal favorite spot is on the other side of the bridge : Battery Spencer. From there, you get a breathtaking view of the entire bridge – especially at sunset, it’s perfect for photos.

One thing you absolutely have to do in San Francisco is take a Cable Car ride. It’s not just a way to get around, but a true piece of history. Holding on as the car climbs up and down the steep hills makes you feel like you’re right inside a movie scene.

After that, a visit to Chinatown is well worth it – one of the oldest and largest Chinese neighborhoods outside of Asia. Colors, smells and small local shops create a complete contrast to the rest of the city.

The easiest way to explore San Francisco is by booking a Hop-on Hop-off bus, allowing you to see all major sights and hop off wherever you want to spend more time.

My personal tip: Always bring a scarf – especially near the coast it can get very windy and chilly.

Los Angeles – Where Dreams, Movies and Reality Meet

Los Angeles is big, loud and chaotic – and that’s exactly what makes it so fascinating. To get a good overview, I recommend starting with a Hop-on Hop-off bus tour. It’s perfect for discovering Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the city’s most important spots in a relaxed way.

If you’re interested in the world of the rich and famous, you should also book a Celebrity Tour. Seeing the villas and hearing the stories gives you a short glimpse into that lifestyle, while also reminding you that celebrities are, in the end, just people too.

One absolute highlight was visiting the Dolby Theatre. Standing where the Oscars are awarded every year instantly gives you that Hollywood feeling. Being on the same stage where so many famous people have stood before feels surreal.

Right in front of it is the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame. With a bit of luck, you might even witness the unveiling of a new star and spot a few celebrities – although there are now so many stars that you probably won’t recognize every name.

For movie and TV lovers, a day at the Warner Bros Studios is an absolute must. Original sets, behind-the-scenes stories and the feeling of suddenly being part of a production made this one of the best experiences of the entire trip.

Of course, you can’t miss the view of the Hollywood Sign. One of the best viewpoints is the Griffith Observatory, especially at sunset. The view over the city is simply magical.

The perfect way to end the day is an evening at Santa Monica Pier. The Ferris wheel, ocean breeze, sunset and that typical California vibe make everything feel light and effortless. Check this Reel

Las Vegas – More Than Just Gambling

Las Vegas truly surprised me. This city is so much more than casinos. You don’t even have to leave the Strip – the hotels themselves are the experience.

The Venetian Hotel was one of my personal highlights. Gondola rides through the canals, Italian flair and ceilings that look like the sky – you completely forget that you’re in the middle of the desert.

At the Paris Hotel, you suddenly find yourself standing in front of the Eiffel Tower, while the Bellagio impresses every night with its famous fountains. And inside the New York-New York Hotel, it feels like being right in the heart of Manhattan.

Las Vegas is like a small world trip in one single place: from European cities like Paris, Berlin or Venice, to New York and even ancient Egyptian temples – everything exists side by side.

One thing you absolutely shouldn’t miss are the shows that are exclusive to Las Vegas. World-class performances, spectacular productions and truly unique experiences you won’t find anywhere else.

Conclusion – A Journey That Stays With You

The US West Coast showed me how different traveling can feel.

San Francisco slowed things down, Los Angeles inspired me and Las Vegas completely surprised me.

This journey was loud, quiet, overwhelming and magical all at once – and that’s exactly why it’s a trip everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.

Of course, the US West Coast has so much more to offer. But if you’re short on time, this route is definitely a perfect choice.
